Petar Sucic's Future Raises Concerns at Inter

Petar Sucic expected to take another step forward in his second season with Inter, but his limited role at the start of the campaign has begun to raise questions about his situation. His camp's desire to review the terms of his contract has now added another element to the discussion.

Sucic Wants a Bigger Role at Inter

Inter has another situation to address. It is not an urgent problem yet, but Petar Sucic's position at the club is beginning to attract attention after a start to the season in which the Croatian midfielder has played less than expected.

The 22-year-old has recorded just 212 minutes across the Serie A and UEFA Champions League, making five appearances and only two starts. Competition in midfield has increased this season, giving Cristian Chivu more alternatives when distributing playing time.

One of those options is Curtis Jones, whose arrival has added even more competition to the squad. In fact, the Englishman made his official Inter debut by replacing Sucic during the victory over Cagliari in August.

The difference compared to his first campaign in Milan is clear. Sucic finished the 2025-26 season with 50 appearances in all competitions and four goals, establishing himself as an important part of the team.

Boban Puts Sucic's Future in the Spotlight

The debate intensified following comments from Zvonimir Boban, who believes his compatriot has enough quality to take on a much bigger role.

“I think he needs more space at Inter,” Boban said, describing Sucic as a complete player with class and personality. The Croatian went even further, suggesting that if the situation remains unchanged, questions could eventually be raised about whether staying in Milan makes sense.

Sucic himself did not completely shut down the discussion while on international duty with Croatia.

When asked about his playing time, the midfielder avoided creating an immediate controversy and instead looked ahead to the coming months. “In two or three months, we'll see what the situation is,” he explained before returning to his club.

His Contract Also Comes Into the Picture

Alongside the sporting situation, the player's contract has now become another talking point.

According to FcInter1908, Sucic's representatives believe the time has come to review his salary and seek improved terms on the deal he agreed upon when he arrived from Dinamo Zagreb.

The Croatian currently earns approximately €1.5 million net per season. That figure places him among the lower earners in the squad and helps explain why his camp believes an improved deal could better reflect the role he has built since arriving in Milan.

That does not mean Inter needs to make an immediate decision. Sucic is tied to the club on a long-term contract, with his current deal running through 2030.

Inter Is in No Rush With Sucic

For now, the situation appears to be far from a breaking point. Sucic remains part of the project, and there is still practically an entire season ahead for him to change his role within Chivu's team.

However, recent weeks have placed two issues on the table: the playing time the midfielder expects to receive and contract terms that his representatives reportedly believe should be reviewed.

The Croatian already showed during his first season that he can have an important role at Inter. Now, he must regain that place in a midfield that has become considerably more competitive.

The next few months could determine the direction of his future. As Sucic himself acknowledged, that should be when a much clearer picture of his situation in Milan begins to emerge.
