Scott McTominay Ready to Return to Serie A With Napoli After Heart Surgery

Scott McTominay is getting closer to returning to Napoli. The midfielder passed a key evaluation after heart surgery and is now cleared to take the next step.

Scott McTominay Closing In on Napoli Return

Scott McTominay is getting closer to returning to competitive action with Napoli. The Scottish midfielder received positive news after undergoing a new medical evaluation following the procedure he had in September.

The midfielder had been sidelined after Napoli's medical staff detected a benign cardiac arrhythmia during routine monitoring of the squad. The situation forced him to temporarily step away from action and begin a closely monitored recovery process.

Now, the situation is starting to change. According to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport, McTominay has already completed one of the key requirements needed to return to full team training with the Italian club.

McTominay Receives Medical Clearance After Heart Surgery

The key development is that McTominay passed the fitness test required under Italian sporting protocols, meaning he is now cleared to rejoin training with his teammates. The assessment was a mandatory step following his heart procedure.

The issue was initially detected through Napoli's medical monitoring, which uses wearable technology during training sessions and matches. After the irregularity was identified, the Scotland international opted to undergo a minor ablation procedure, which was successfully completed on September 8 in Manchester.

After two weeks of complete rest, McTominay began working individually, first in the gym and later with ball exercises. He now has the green light to progress toward a competitive return, although he will still need to regain his match fitness before taking on a significant workload.

Allegri Regains a Key Piece for Napoli

For Massimiliano Allegri, the Scottish midfielder's return comes at a particularly important time. Napoli are currently ninth in Serie A with seven points, six behind leaders Roma, and need greater consistency after an uneven start to the season.

McTominay established himself as a key player after joining the club in 2024 from Manchester United. He played a major role in Napoli's 2024-25 Serie A title triumph, was named Serie A Player of the Year, and later added the Supercoppa Italiana to his collection of honors. With 27 goals in 82 appearances for Napoli, his influence extends well beyond the midfield.

Will McTominay Be Available Against Frosinone?

The next major question is when McTominay will officially return to competitive action. McTominay could be included in the squad for Saturday's match against Frosinone, although he may initially start on the bench.

The priority will be to manage his return gradually following the procedure. Even so, having one of the most important players in the squad available again would provide a significant boost for Napoli.
