(VIDEO) Why are Vedat Muriqi and Fenerbahçe’s records historic after their Süper Lig rout?
The Kosovar striker was the standout performer in the Sarı Kanarya’s emphatic victory over Eyüpspor.
Fenerbahçe turned Matchday 6 of the Turkish Süper Lig into a historic night. The Istanbul giants thrashed Eyüpspor 8-0, with Vedat Muriqi stealing the spotlight after scoring four goals in just 55 minutes. The emphatic victory set unprecedented records for both the Kosovar striker and the club.
MURIQI SCORES THE FIRST FOUR-GOAL HAUL OF HIS CAREER
Vedat Muriqi scored four goals in a single match for the first time in his career while also registering his first hat-trick in the Süper Lig. The striker found the net in the 7th, 21st, 47th and 55th minutes, producing a remarkable performance that made him the standout figure in Fenerbahçe’s emphatic victory.
Muriqi’s four-goal haul also has a recent precedent at Fenerbahçe. He is the club’s first player to score four goals in a league match since Cengiz Ünder, who reached the same mark against İstanbulspor in January 2024.
FENERBAHÇE MAKE HISTORY WITH 8-0 VICTORY
The 8-0 win over Eyüpspor represents the biggest winning margin in Fenerbahçe’s Süper Lig history. The club had previously scored eight goals in three different league matches, but had never won a top-flight game by an eight-goal margin.
Fenerbahçe’s previous eight-goal performances came in an 8-4 victory over Gaziantepspor in 1992, an 8-1 win against Samsunspor in 1994, and another 8-1 triumph over Kayseri Erciyesspor later that same year. The victory over Eyüpspor marks the fourth time Fenerbahçe have scored eight goals in a Turkish top-flight match.
The rout also featured goals from Mason Greenwood, Matteo Guendouzi and İrfan Can Kahveci, alongside Muriqi’s four-goal masterpiece.
MURIQI CLOSES THE GAP ON SALAH
With his four goals against Eyüpspor, Muriqi moved to six goals in the 2026-27 Süper Lig season. The striker had scored twice in his first five league appearances, but his stunning performance now leaves him just one goal behind Mohamed Salah, who has seven.
The current scoring race sees Salah on seven goals and Muriqi on six, although the Kosovar striker completely reshaped the picture in a single match. With four goals in one night, Muriqi not only delivered a historic performance for Fenerbahçe, but also moved firmly into the group of the Turkish league’s leading scorers this season.
