Real Madrid Beat Atlético and Set Up El Clásico Final Against Barcelona
Real Madrid, led by Xabi Alonso, once again raised questions about their overall performance, but did just enough to win a dramatic Madrid derby and book their place in the Spanish Super Cup final, where they will face Barcelona.
Despite lingering doubts surrounding Alonso’s side, 30 strong opening minutes against a slow-starting Atlético Madrid proved decisive. That stretch allowed Real Madrid to secure a 2–1 victory in Saudi Arabia and advance to the title match against Hansi Flick’s Barcelona.
Federico Valverde Shines in the Super Cup Semifinal
Federico Valverde was the key figure and rescued Xabi Alonso with two decisive moments. The Uruguayan opened the scoring with a direct free kick early in the match, catching Jan Oblak off guard.
Valverde then turned provider in the second half. In the 55th minute, he delivered a perfectly weighted long pass to Rodrygo, who used his pace to break the defensive line and finish calmly past Oblak for Real Madrid’s second goal.

Sørloth Gave Atlético Madrid Hope
Atlético responded quickly. Just three minutes after Rodrygo’s goal, Giuliano Simeone found Alexander Sørloth at the far post, and the Norwegian striker beat Raúl Asencio to pull one back and make it 2–1.
The Colchoneros pushed for an equalizer, with chances involving Julián Álvarez and late attacking adjustments, but frustration and a lack of creativity ultimately prevented a comeback.
