(VIDEO) Robert Lewandowski Joins Messi and Ronaldo in the 100-Goal Champions League Club
Robert Lewandowski reached a historic milestone today, proving why he is one of the best forwards of the century. He scored his 100th goal in the Champions League, joining Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as one of the three players with 100 goals in the competition.
The milestone goal came on Matchday 5 of the new UEFA Champions League format against Stade Brest, scored from the penalty spot in the 10th minute of the first half. With this goal, Lewandowski also became the top scorer of the tournament so far with six goals, experiencing a resurgence under the guidance of Hansi Flick.
How many goals do Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have?
Only Cristiano Ronaldo (140 goals in 183 matches) and Messi (129 in 163) surpass Lewandowski’s goal tally in the Champions League, although the Barcelona striker’s average (0.8) is slightly better than that of the Portuguese (0.77) and the Argentine (0.79).
How does Robert Lewandowski distribute his goals?
The Warsaw-born forward has scored 100 goals in Europe’s top competition with three different teams. He started with Borussia Dortmund, registering 17 goals in 28 appearances. In the 2014-15 season, he moved to Bayern Munich, where he played for 8 seasons and netted 69 goals in 78 Champions League matches. After joining Barcelona in the 2022-23 season, Lewandowski has played 19 games in the prestigious competition, scoring 14 goals.
In the final stages of his career, the Barcelona "number 9" seems to be experiencing a second youth at the club. His goal-scoring records are evidence of this in the early stages of this season. After his 100th Champions League goal, Lewandowski has already scored six goals in the first five matchdays of the European competition, adding to the 15 goals he has netted in 14 La Liga EA Sports matches.
