Ethan Mbappé Led the Celebrations in the Locker Room After Defeating Real Madrid
Real Madrid suffered an unprecedented defeat in their second game of the new Champions League format against the impressive Lille, led by Jonathan David. One of the players who most enjoyed this moment was Ethan Mbappé, the brother of renowned player Kylian Mbappé.
After the victory, Ethan Mbappé was seen leading Lille’s celebrations in the locker room, in a unique moment that will forever be etched in the memory of the Mbappé family. In the first encounter between the brothers, the younger one emerged victorious despite not being able to play due to an injury.
LOSC Lille shocked the football world by defeating the reigning Champions League titleholders, Real Madrid, with a 1-0 scoreline, thanks to a goal from their Canadian striker, Jonathan David. This victory marked Lille's first win in the new format of the continental tournament. The French team ended the impressive 36-match unbeaten streak of Real Madrid's coach, Carlo Ancelotti, and exposed the deficiencies of the Spanish team, especially when playing away from Santiago Bernabéu.
The match posed several challenges for Real Madrid, who could not recover after David scored a penalty following a handball by Camavinga, spotted by VAR just before halftime. Although Andriy Lunin, the backup goalkeeper due to Courtois' injury, delivered an outstanding performance with a double save against David, he couldn't stop the penalty. In the second half, Real Madrid introduced Modric and Mbappé in an attempt to overturn the scoreline, creating several opportunities in the final minutes but failing to find the net due to the exceptional performance of Lille's goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier.
By the end of the match, Real Madrid increased the pressure in search of an equalizer, generating more chances in the closing minutes than throughout the rest of the game. However, the effort was in vain, as Chevalier and his defense withstood all attempts, including clear chances from Rüdiger and Güler. The defeat left Real Madrid facing the challenge of avoiding two additional matches in the new Champions League format, serving as a reminder of the importance of finishing among the top eight. Nevertheless, this setback allows them to also focus on maintaining their performance in LaLiga.
