Lionel Messi's Champions League Record That Robert Lewandowski Matched
With his brace against Young Boys, the Polish forward surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo and matched the Argentine star as the player with the highest scoring average.
With the double scored in Barcelona's 5-0 thrashing of Young Boys at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, Robert Lewandowski matches Lionel Messi as the player with the highest goal-scoring average in Champions League history among those who have scored at least 50 goals.
The Polish "killer" and the Argentine star both top this statistic with an average of 0.79 goals per game. They are followed by Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo (0.77), Dutch Ruud van Nistelrooy (0.77), and French Karim Benzema (0.59).
Additionally, Lewandowski ranks second in the list of players with the most goals in the Champions League since turning 30. With his brace against Young Boys, the Barcelona forward has scored 51 goals since he turned 30, only behind Cristiano Ronaldo, who has accumulated 68 goals.
For Barcelona, the Polish international has already scored in 50 out of the 105 matches he has played for the club. According to BeSoccer Pro data for EFE, only five players have scored in more matches than he has with the Catalan team after turning 30.
These five players are, of course, Argentine Leo Messi (110 matches scoring with the Barça shirt after turning 30), Uruguayan Luis Suárez (75), Spaniards César Rodríguez (59) and Enrique Castro 'Quini' (54), and Hungarian Sándor Kocsis (52).
