Neuer Looks Forward to Reunion with Flick in Exciting Champions League Clash
Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer expressed his anticipation for reuniting with former coach Hansi Flick, now the head coach of Barcelona, following the Champions League draw. Bayern will travel to the Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc to face Barcelona.
“We are heading into the group stage with confidence, aiming for direct qualification. Particularly in matches against the top-seeded teams, we want to prove our position and win. Barcelona and PSG have started the season well. Benfica is a very strong team. We’ve gained experience against Dinamo Zagreb. Bratislava will surely feel a lot of excitement for qualifying. And our English fans are especially pleased that we’ll be playing against Aston Villa on the island,” the goalkeeper said.
Midfielder Joshua Kimmich echoed Neuer’s sentiments, stating he is "eager to see Hansi Flick and Barcelona again, and also looking forward to the match against Paris Saint-Germain."
"For me, these are formally the two strongest rivals, though we must not underestimate any of the other clubs. All these games can be very tight. However, our goal must be to qualify directly for the Round of 16. And what better than to be there for the final in May 2025 at the Allianz Arena, our own stadium,” he added.
Finally, Bayern Munich's sporting director Max Eberl emphasized their excitement to face Flick again in Barcelona and looks forward to a great home match against Paris Saint-Germain.
"We have positive statistics against all teams except Bratislava, whom we have never faced, and Aston Villa, because we lost the final to them in 1982. This will be a historic encounter, and we will do everything possible to ensure a better outcome,” he concluded.
Bayern Munich, whose last continental title came in 2020 in Lisbon, will face Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica, Dinamo Zagreb, and Slovan Bratislava at home, while traveling to Barcelona, Shakhtar Donetsk, Feyenoord, and Aston Villa in the group stage.
