Real Madrid Boosted by Key Full-Back's Return Ahead of Liverpool Clash
Real Madrid’s Lucas Vázquez, sidelined since November 9 with a muscle tear in his left adductor, is back in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for Wednesday’s crucial Champions League match against Liverpool. His participation, however, hinges on how he feels during the final training session at Anfield.
Club sources confirmed that a decision will be made after Tuesday’s session, following Vázquez’s pain-free workout on Monday at the club’s training ground. Initially expected to be out for a month, the defender has recovered ahead of schedule, potentially filling the right-back void left by Dani Carvajal’s knee injury.
While Vázquez makes the squad, Real Madrid will be without several key players. Rodrygo Goes and Aurelien Tchouaméni haven’t recovered in time, and Vinícius Junior is ruled out with a left hamstring injury that will sideline him for about three weeks.
To address the offensive gaps, Ancelotti has called up youth prospect Gonzalo García. The versatile forward, who has experience on both wings, has impressed with RM Castilla, tallying seven goals and two assists in 12 matches this season. García’s inclusion offers Ancelotti much-needed attacking options as Madrid faces group leaders Liverpool, who have been flawless in their first four Champions League games.
