UEFA Investigates Real Madrid Players for Their Celebration Against Atlético de Madrid
UEFA has launched a disciplinary investigation against four Real Madrid players following their behavior during the celebration of their victory over Atlético de Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16.
The players under scrutiny are Antonio Rüdiger, Kylian Mbappé, Dani Ceballos, and Vinícius Júnior, who are accused of "improper conduct" during the post-match celebrations at the Metropolitano on March 12.
UEFA Examines the Controversial Celebration
The European governing body has assigned an ethics and disciplinary inspector to analyze the actions of the Real Madrid players after their penalty shootout victory. The controversy arose from the way the Madrid players celebrated near one of the stands, allegedly provoking a reaction from some Atlético de Madrid fans, who responded by throwing objects onto the pitch.
UEFA will investigate whether the players’ gestures were directly aimed at the rival fans and if they constitute a violation of the Disciplinary Regulations. If found guilty of breaching the rules, both the club and the players could face sanctions.
Real Madrid Must Present Its Defense
Now, Real Madrid will have the opportunity to defend its players before UEFA, providing evidence to justify their behavior and avoid potential penalties. The club argues that the celebration was spontaneous, merely reflecting the tension of the match, and not intended to provoke Atlético de Madrid supporters.

Some in the football world believe that the reaction of the Madrid players was a response to insults and provocations they endured during the game. However, UEFA will ultimately decide whether there was a disciplinary breach or if it was simply an emotional moment after a hard-fought victory.
The case is ongoing, and UEFA’s final decision is expected in the coming weeks once the investigation is concluded. If found guilty, Antonio Rüdiger, Kylian Mbappé, Dani Ceballos, and Vinícius Júnior could face sanctions.
