Virgil van Dijk's Viral Response to Real Madrid Transfer Question
After Liverpool vs Real Madrid, the Dutch center-back was asked about the possibility of joining the Spanish club in the summer. Check out his response.
Virgil van Dijk was caught off guard when journalist Edu Aguirre directly questioned him about his future after Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Real Madrid. The 33-year-old Dutch center-back, who renewed his contract with Liverpool until 2025 in 2021, was asked about his potential move to Real Madrid, prompting a viral response.
"What's going to happen with your future? Are you staying at Liverpool?" Aguirre asked. Van Dijk, initially surprised by the direct question, responded with a smile: "What a direct question… They don’t ask me like that. I have nothing to say. I’m focused on the next match (against Manchester City)."
The persistent Aguirre didn’t stop there, bringing up the possibility of Van Dijk joining Real Madrid this summer, given the club's current need for defenders.
"Real Madrid needs center-backs," Aguirre stated.
"I don’t know..." Van Dijk replied cautiously.
"Yes, yes... because Militao and Alaba are injured," the journalist explained.
"Well, Antonio Rüdiger is there..." Van Dijk replied, hinting that the situation might not be as dire as suggested.
Still pressing, Aguirre asked, "You to Real Madrid?"
"When?" the Liverpool defender responded.
"This summer," Aguirre clarified.
"Summer? As I said, right now I’m just focusing on City," Van Dijk concluded, firmly redirecting the conversation.
Van Dijk’s response has since gone viral, with many fans and pundits speculating about the future of the highly sought-after player, especially given the ongoing injuries at Real Madrid's defense. However, it’s clear that, for now, the Dutchman’s focus remains squarely on Liverpool and their upcoming challenges
