Musiala aiming to raise his level after scoring first Bayern goal since returning from injury
Jamal Musiala was on target for Bayern Munich in their 2-1 win over PSV in the Champions League, with the midfielder pleased to contribute.
Jamal Musiala revelled in helping Bayern Munich to a 2-1 win over PSV in the Champions League by marking his first start since returning from injury with a goal.
Vincent Kompany's side were already assured of a spot in the last 16 ahead of their trip to Philips Stadion, but took the lead through Musiala's 58th-minute finish.
Musiala has now scored two goals in his last three Champions League matches, the same number he scored in his previous 18 appearances in the competition combined.
However, PSV drew level through Ismael Saibari, but Harry Kane came off the bench to score the winning goal six minutes from time to clinch their seventh league phase win.
Bayern will face either Atalanta, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund or Olympiacos in the last 16, with Musiala thrilled to be back amongst the goals having found his way back into the team after sustaining a fractured fibula along with a dislocated and broken ankle at the Club World Cup.
"I'm really happy about my goal. My mum's already sent me a thousand WhatsApp messages. Most of all I'm happy to be back on the pitch," Musiala said of his goal.
"My focus is now on the next game and on continuing to raise my level. It was really good, except at the start of the second half – I briefly forgot how to play football then.
"I had some good actions, and I'm gradually getting back into it. When I'm on the pitch, I just want to have and produce lots of energy and focus. Today was a good day."
Bayern did come into the game off the back of a shock 2-1 defeat to Augsburg in the Bundesliga, which was their first league loss of 2025-26.
Kompany faced the prospect of enduring back-to-back defeats in all competitions for the first time since joining the club, but his team were deserving of their triumph.
They finished the game with an expected goals (xG) total of 1.82 from their 17 shots compared to PSV's 0.69 from their 13 attempts, seven of which tested Jonas Urbig.
"We've not let our level drop for many games now. We learned that against Augsburg, when we drop off slightly," Musiala added.
"It was an important win today. Now the crunch games are coming, and it's important that we take our level up another notch for these matches."
Bayern's triumph was made even more impressive given their starting XI had an average age of just 24 years and 339 days, their youngest for a Champions League match since September 2015 in a 5-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb (24 years, 337 days).
Joshua Kimmich was the second youngest in that 2015 line-up, aged 20, while he was their oldest starter tonight (30 years, 354 days).
