Will Kylian Mbappé play for Real Madrid vs Benfica in the Champions League?

Real Madrid raised eyebrows by starting their match against Real Sociedad without Kylian Mbappé. The French forward, who has scored nearly 40 goals this season, remained on the bench at the Santiago Bernabéu, sparking questions about his fitness ahead of the Champions League playoffs.
Mbappé trained separately after missing minutes
During Sunday’s training session in Valdebebas, players who featured against Real Sociedad — including Vinícius Júnior — completed recovery work as the squad prepares to travel to Lisbon to face Benfica in the first leg of the playoffs.
Mbappé, having not played, joined the more intense training group despite being included in the matchday squad.

Arbeloa clarifies Mbappé’s status for Champions League
Head coach Álvaro Arbeloa explained that Mbappé’s absence was precautionary due to minor physical discomfort and that the club chose not to take risks.
“Mbappé is doing very well. He has been dealing with small discomfort for some time and has been making efforts to play, so today we didn’t want to take risks ahead of Tuesday’s match,” Arbeloa said.
Real Madrid injuries ahead of Benfica clash
While Mbappé is expected to be available, Real Madrid will be without key players against Benfica. The most notable absence is Jude Bellingham, who continues his recovery.
Rodrygo and Éder Militão are also sidelined, limiting the squad options for the European fixture.
