Fenerbahce, Lyon Play to Scoreless Draw, Leaving Europa League Fate Uncertain
Incapable of scoring, Fenerbahce, managed by Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, and Lyon, led by Pierre Sage, played to a 0-0 draw, leaving their future in the Europa League in the hands of the final matchday.
No goals were scored at the Ulker Stadium Şükrü Saracoğlu in Istanbul, and both teams now rely on the outcome of the final group stage game. Lyon, third in the standings and with one foot in the direct knockout round, will host Ludogorets in their final match.
The French side couldn't extend their winning streak, having won their previous two European matches. However, they still control their destiny, as a win would see them into the top eight and avoid the 'playoff' round, which Fenerbahce is hoping to qualify for. The Turkish side still needs to secure their place in the final match.
Fenerbahce, sitting nineteenth in the standings, will visit Midtjylland of Denmark in the final round of the group stage.
