Andrés Iniesta Stunned by Lamine Yamal: “It’s Not Normal”
The Barcelona legend has been blown away by the young Spaniard’s level and highlighted how rare it is to see a player this good at just 19.
Andrés Iniesta knows exactly what it means to watch an extraordinary talent emerge at FC Barcelona. He shared a dressing room with Lionel Messi for years, and now he is watching Lamine Yamal rise from afar.
The 19-year-old winger has started the season in spectacular form, scoring seven goals in his first seven LaLiga matches and establishing himself as one of Barcelona’s biggest stars.
His performances have even surprised Iniesta, who was very clear when assessing what Yamal is doing at an age when most players are still trying to establish themselves at the highest level.
“No, It’s Not Normal”
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Iniesta rejected the idea that it is common to see a player this young performing at such a high level.
“Is it normal to see Yamal at this level at 19? No, it’s not normal,” the legendary midfielder said.
He then summed up his point simply: “Otherwise there would be more players capable of achieving it.”
What Impresses Iniesta Most
Lamine Yamal’s numbers stand out, but Iniesta wanted to look beyond the goals. For him, part of what makes the winger so special is the way he handles everything happening around him.
“What is beautiful and important about all of this is his ambition, his ease, and the fact that, when you think about it, what lies ahead for him is magnificent,” he said.
The natural way Yamal has taken on an increasingly important role has become one of Barcelona’s biggest stories at the start of the season.
A Future That Is Only Beginning
Despite everything he has already achieved, Iniesta focused on an even more striking reality: Yamal is still only 19 years old.
His start to the season confirms that his impact can no longer be explained simply as that of a young prospect. The Spaniard has become one of Barcelona’s most decisive players.
And that is exactly what stands out to a club legend who knows how exceptional a player must be to make such a difference so early: for Iniesta, what Lamine Yamal is doing is simply not normal.
