Thomas Tuchel Sends Clear Message to Premier League Clubs
The England boss made his stance clear over how he plans to manage his biggest stars during a demanding international window.
Thomas Tuchel has made his priority clear during this international window: England. After the 3-2 defeat to Spain at Wembley, the German coach wants to use many of his key players again when the Three Lions face Czechia in the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday.
The heavy fixture schedule and physical workload facing England's biggest stars have once again raised questions over how minutes should be managed between clubs and national teams. Tuchel, however, has made it clear he will not shape his lineup around the needs of Premier League sides.
“I don't take calls from Premier League managers,” Tuchel said, explaining that he never tried to negotiate with national-team coaches when he worked in club football. For the England boss, trying to divide players' minutes through outside agreements would simply be impossible.
Tuchel Takes a Firm Stance on Rotation
Tuchel did acknowledge that certain players require individual management. Declan Rice, for example, needed a rest because of his heavy workload and recent fitness concerns.
But once the squad has been selected, the coach does not want to give his players the impression that some matches can be approached with less intensity simply to manage their workload.
“Why would I do this and start giving the players the impression that it's OK to take a step back or share a half or to rest one match? I would never. It's madness,” Tuchel said.
His ideal scenario would be to maintain a recognizable core throughout the international window. Tuchel even spoke about having six or seven starters play again in order to build consistency, responsibility and trust within the team.

Tuchel's stance comes after a painful result for the Three Lions, who suffered a 3-2 defeat to Spain at Wembley and now need to respond in their next Nations League fixture.
The England coach believes that setback makes an immediate reaction in Prague even more important, and he has no intention of taking a cautious approach to the next match.
Tuchel wants England to maintain the intensity and identity he is trying to establish, even during an especially demanding international window.
After facing Czechia, England will travel to Rijeka to take on Croatia before meeting the Czech side again in their final match of the international break.
Jude Bellingham Brings the Fire Tuchel Wants
One player who perfectly represents that mentality is Jude Bellingham. The midfielder once again played with huge intensity against Spain, providing an assist and winning a penalty during the match.
His aggressive approach also produced some heated moments, including an exchange with Marc Cucurella.
Rather than being concerned by that edge, Tuchel believes it is part of what makes Bellingham such an influential player.
“It's better if he plays with a bit of rage. It's what he does,” Tuchel said. “I think sometimes he is looking for these moments to get his fire going.”
The England coach also made clear that friendships disappear once an international match begins. “He is still friends with them but not for the 90 minutes,” Tuchel added.
That does not mean England will take unnecessary risks. Bellingham's fitness will be assessed carefully before a decision is made over his involvement in the upcoming matches.
Tuchel Makes England's Priority Clear
England face a demanding run of matches in a short period, but Tuchel does not want the schedule to alter his team's competitive mindset.
His message is clear: England will manage its players according to the needs of the national team first, even if that puts the Three Lions' plans at odds with the interests of Premier League clubs.
After the setback against Spain, the next test comes in Prague, where England will look for an immediate response against Czechia.
