Bompastor unsure if Chelsea's Kerr will play this season
Sam Kerr has been out for almost 18 months and has been training with both Chelsea and Australia, but her comeback will not be this week.
Sonia Bompastor is unsure if Sam Kerr will play for Chelsea before the end of the season as she continues her recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Kerr sustained the injury during a training camp in January 2024 and has not played a competitive game since December 2023.
Chelsea named the Australia star in their squad for the knockout stages of the Women's Champions League, but she will not feature when the Blues attempt to overturn a 4-1 first-leg deficit in their semi-final tie against Barcelona on Sunday.
She will also be absent for their Women's Super League meeting with Crystal Palace on Wednesday, when a victory would pull them six points clear of Arsenal at the summit.
Asked about Kerr's condition at Tuesday's pre-match press conference, Bompastor said: "I'm not in a position to give any timeframe on her return but she won't be involved in the games this week.
"Sam is progressing in her rehab but I don't have enough elements to say we will see her this season. Hopefully yes, but it's difficult for me to say."
Chelsea have three league games remaining after this week – against Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool.
They will also face United in the Women's FA Cup final on May 18, with the Red Devils looking to retain the trophy they won for the first time last year.
