Emma Raducanu has been forced to withdraw from Wimbledon after a scan revealed she has sustained a stress fracture in her shin.

Raducanu had been positive about her prospects of playing the year's third grand slam after taking to the practice courts on Sunday, though she was wearing strapping on her lower leg.

The 2021 US Open champion, who was runner-up at Queen's before withdrawing from the Nottingham Open, said she would "do everything" to feature at SW19.

Raducanu was due to face Antonia Ruzic in her first-round match, but late on Sunday, she announced she would not be able to participate.

"I can't believe I'm saying this, but sadly I've had to withdraw from this year's Wimbledon," Raducanu wrote in an Instagram story.

"I've done everything possible to try to get to the start line tomorrow but after a final scan tonight, the niggle I've been managing has developed into a stress fracture and I've been medically advised to stop pushing through.

"Playing at Wimbledon, in front of a home crowd, means everything to me, so this is really difficult to process."

Raducanu has struggled with various injuries since her breakout grand slam triumph as a qualifier at Flushing Meadows five years ago.

She also missed Wimbledon in 2023 due to a wrist injury, before reaching the fourth round in 2024 and the third round in 2025. 

Raducanu's record for the year stands at 11-10, having only played six matches between early February and her run to the final at Queen's, where she lost 6-0 7-6 (8-6) to Donna Vekic.
