Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz: Date, Time and All You Need to Know About the US Open Final
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are set to clash in a historic US Open final, where not only the trophy is at stake but also the world No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings.
A final for tennis supremacy
The US Open 2025 reaches its peak this Sunday with a dream matchup: Jannik Sinner against Carlos Alcaraz at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Beyond the trophy, this final will determine who sits atop the ATP world rankings, adding extra tension to an already electrifying showdown.
Sinner, the current ATP leader, has held the No. 1 spot for 65 consecutive weeks, after overtaking Novak Djokovic following Roland Garros in 2024. The Italian began the tournament with 11,480 points, defending 2,000 as the reigning champion in New York.
On the other side, Alcaraz entered with 9,590 points and only 50 to defend after an early exit in the second round last year. Thanks to his strong run this time, the Spaniard has already reached 10,840 virtual points, edging ahead of Sinner by just 60 before the final.
What’s at stake
The winner in New York will earn an additional 700 points. For Alcaraz, a title would push him to 11,540, consolidating his place as the clear world No. 1. For Sinner, successfully defending his throne would mean keeping 11,480 points and extending his reign at the top.
In his press conference, Alcaraz downplayed the pressure of the ranking. “Being No. 1 is a great goal, but we tried not to obsess over it. This final reminds me of 2022, when I played for my first Grand Slam and the No. 1 spot. It feels like a flashback,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sinner stressed that his focus is on the match rather than the standings. “The No. 1 ranking comes and goes; the important thing is Sunday’s match. That’s our real goal,” he remarked.
Time and venue of the final
The US Open final will be played this Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium, with action starting at 2 PM ET, 1 PM CT, 12 PM MT, and 11 AM PT.
It promises to be a thrilling battle between two of the brightest stars of their generation, with double stakes: the New York crown and the honor of being crowned the world’s top-ranked player.
