Dortmund wins to seal Champions League spot
Borussia Dortmund hammered relegated Holstein Kiel 3-0 to finish fourth and snatch the Bundesliga's final UEFAChampions League spot for next season.
Dortmund entered the final matchday knowing a three-goal victory over its 2.Bundesliga-bound visitor would seal qualification for Europe's top club competition.
There was to be no slip-up at Signal Iduna Park, with Dortmund making a dream start when Serhou Guirassy converted a third-minute penalty to give the hosts the lead.
Kiel was then left with 10 players when Carl Johansson was sent off, receiving a straight red card for an ill-advised lunge on Karim Adeyemi.
The hosts could not make the extra man count until the break, leading to a few nerves among the home fans, but two minutes after the restart, Marcel Sabitzer slotted home from the edge of the box.
Felix Nmecha then added a third for Dortmund in the 72nd minute, although the margin of victory was ultimately irrelevant as it finished two points clear of fifth-placed Freiburg.
Freiburg was facing Eintracht Frankfurt in a winner-takes-all clash at Europa-Park Stadion, and although Ritsu Doan gave it a half-time lead, things unravelled thereafter.
Ansgar Knauff levelled on the stroke of half-time, then Rasmus Kristensen and Ellyes Skhiri scored in the second half to seal Eintracht's win, and a third-placed finish.
