Strand Larsen double edges Wolves closer to safety
Wolverhampton Wanderers moved nine points clear of the relegation zone as it ran out a 2-1 winner at Southampton in a key relegation battle.
The home side made an encouraging start but fell behind after 19 minutes as Jorgen Strand Larsen headed home after a fine cross from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
Wolves doubled their lead early in the second half, as Bellegarde picked out Strand Larsen once more, with the Norwegian international shifting onto his right and striking a low shot into the far corner.
Southampton managed to halve the deficit as Paul Onuachu applied a finish on the rebound after Tyler Dibling's effort had struck a post, but Wolves were able to hold on for all three points.
Wolves remain in 17th place but are now nine points clear of Ipswich Town, while Southampton stays bottom of the table with nine points from 29 matches.
