Williams dedicates medal to his mother
Williams can be seen running to the stands, straight to his mother. He takes his gold medal off and hands it to her. She reacts with joy as Williams gives her the medal. She was visibly proud to be remembered and included in the celebration by her son and proud of the love her son has to offer.
Nico dedicated his gold medal to his mom, who was in the stands watching her son perform against the former champions Argentina. Williams' mother Maria Arthur left Ghana, crossing the Sahara in the 1990's to seek asylum and start a new life in Spain. Williams dedicates his hard work to his mother as a tribute to her efforts to provide a lifestyle for him.
Nico Williams emerged as one of Spain’s standout players during the tournament. He scored a goal that was later disallowed and set up the game-winning goal for his teammate, Ferran Torres. To celebrate his incredible victory, he gave back to the person who brought him to Spain in the first place, his mother, María Arthuer.
