Haason Reddick Ends Holdout, Set to Play for the Jets
After a months-long holdout that cost him $5.9 million in fines, star linebacker Haason Reddick is set to debut with the New York Jets this Sunday against the New England Patriots in Week 8.
Reddick, who was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Jets after the 2023 season, initially refused to report, seeking a higher deal than the $14.5 million promised for 2024. When negotiations stalled, he switched agents and even requested a trade in August, hoping for a return to Philadelphia, though NFL rules prevented it.
In early October, Reddick’s new agent reopened talks, leading to an agreement that includes the remaining $9 million salary plus incentives to offset his fines. To make room on the roster, the Jets released defensive end Takk McKinley.
The 30-year-old Camden, NJ native has been a force since his NFL debut with the Eagles as a 2017 first-round pick, amassing 410 tackles, 58 sacks, and 50.5 sacks since 2020—the highest among league defenders. Reddick’s aggressive play will add firepower to the Jets' defense, already ranked third in the league with 20 sacks. With Aaron Rodgers leading the offense, the Jets are looking to turn their 2-5 season around and move closer to playoff contention.
