Ravens-Chiefs Game Sets Historic Record
NBC announced that the Kansas City Chiefs' 27-20 victory over the Baltimore Ravens set a new record as the most-watched NFL season opener, with 28.9 million viewers.
This figure surpassed last year’s opening game between the Chiefs and the Detroit Lions by five percent. At its peak, the game drew 33 million viewers, according to the network.
The game itself was thrilling for several reasons. It was delayed due to a lightning storm that lit up the sky around Arrowhead Stadium, with the powerful strikes going viral on social media. Prior to kickoff, fans were treated to a spectacular flyover by the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, which costs over $2 billion to build.
This season opener also marked pop star Taylor Swift's appearance at Arrowhead, where she supported her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Swift dazzled in a Versace denim bustier, matching shorts, thigh-high maroon stiletto boots, and a black Louis Vuitton bag.
But the most exciting moment came in the final seconds, when a potential game-tying Ravens touchdown was overturned after Isaiah Likely’s toe barely touched out of bounds in the end zone, securing a dramatic victory for the Chiefs.
