Venezuelan Fans Celebrate Historic World Baseball Classic Title Over United States
Venezuela made history by defeating United States to win its first World Baseball Classic title. The team led by Omar López sparked nationwide celebrations after an unforgettable victory.
The Venezuela national team etched its name in baseball history by defeating United States 3-2 in the final of the 2026 World Baseball Classic, held in Miami. With this result, the squad managed by Omar López secured its first-ever title in the tournament and triggered massive celebrations both inside the stadium and across the country.
The decisive moment came in the ninth inning, when Eugenio Suárez delivered a clutch double that allowed Javier Sanoja to score the winning run. Earlier in the game, Salvador Pérez drove in the opening run, while Wilyer Abreu added another with a home run. Although Bryce Harper tied the game in the eighth inning with a solo shot, Venezuela responded immediately to seal a historic victory.
Pitching also played a crucial role, led by Eduardo Rodríguez, who anchored a strong Venezuelan staff that managed to contain a powerful American lineup filled with elite talent.
Massive Celebrations Across the Country
The title sparked a nationwide celebration. Thousands of fans took to the streets of Caracas and other cities to celebrate the historic achievement. Public squares, avenues, and parks were filled with jerseys, flags, and chants honoring the national team.
Large screens were set up in different locations across the country, allowing fans to experience the game together. As soon as the final out was recorded, the celebrations erupted: music, cheers, and caravans took over the streets, reflecting the magnitude of the achievement for a nation where baseball is deeply rooted in its culture.
The atmosphere at loanDepot Park was equally remarkable, with a strong presence of Venezuelan fans who made the team feel at home throughout the game.
A Title That Goes Beyond Sports
The impact of the victory was so significant that Vice President Delcy Rodríguez declared the following day a national holiday, allowing citizens to fully celebrate the championship. She emphasized that the triumph represents the unity, talent, and passion of the Venezuelan people.
This title marks a turning point for Venezuela on the international stage. After years of coming close, with a third-place finish as their previous best result, the team finally reached the top by defeating powerhouse teams such as Japan and Italy along the way.
On the other side, the loss left United States with its second consecutive final defeat, following its loss in the 2023 edition. Players like Kyle Schwarber and Gunnar Henderson showed visible frustration after falling short in a game where they entered as favorites.
With this victory, Venezuela joins the list of champions of the World Baseball Classic.
