LeBron James on Playing with His Son Bronny: "I Will Never Forget It"
LeBron James and His Son Bronny Made NBA History: "A Crazy Moment," Said the Lakers Legend
LeBron James, who made history on Tuesday alongside Bronny James as the first father-son duo in the NBA, expressed his immense happiness and pride at achieving this unprecedented family milestone in the world's top basketball league.
"It's family, it's always been about family above everything else," LeBron said in an interview with TNT.
"I've sacrificed a lot of time with my family for this league, traveling, and missing so much. So to have this moment where I'm still working and able to work alongside my son is one of the greatest gifts I've ever received. I'm going to cherish it," he added.
Bronny, on his part, said he felt "extremely grateful" for the "incredible opportunity" to make his NBA debut and to do it alongside his father.
"It's a crazy moment that I'll never forget," he said.
Both wearing Los Angeles Lakers jerseys, LeBron (starting) and Bronny (off the bench) reached this milestone when they took the court together with 4:00 left in the second quarter of their game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which the Lakers won 110-103.
At 39 years old (turning 40 in December) and in his 22nd NBA season (tied with Vince Carter for the most seasons played), LeBron, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, had often expressed his dream of sharing the court with his son one day.
Bronny, 20, was selected 55th in the last draft by the Lakers.
LeBron and Bronny had previously played together on October 6 in a preseason game, but this was their first official NBA game together.
Their family, led by Savannah James (LeBron's wife and Bronny's mother), was in attendance, along with MLB legends Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr., who achieved a similar feat in 1990 with the Seattle Mariners.
LeBron finished the game with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks, while Bronny played 2 minutes and 41 seconds, grabbing one rebound and missing two shots.
