Mahomes Comments on Doncic's Move to The Lakers
Patrick Mahomes, quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs and fan of the Dallas Mavericks, expressed his sadness on Tuesday about Luka Dončić's departure to the Los Angeles Lakers, highlighting his significant impact on the city of Dallas during his seven years with the Mavericks. Mahomes made these remarks during a press conference in New Orleans, where he is preparing to play in his third consecutive Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday.
"As a Mavs fan, it hurts because of everything Luka did for the city. We have a friendship with him, and I’m excited for his future. He’s going to learn a lot from LeBron James, and that’s what you want, to learn from the greats," Mahomes said, visibly affected by the departure of such a key player for the franchise.
The Chiefs' quarterback also emphasized how difficult it is to lose a player who represented so much for the team. "I’ll always be a Mavs fan. Anthony Davis, who came to Dallas in exchange for Luka Dončić, is an elite player, but it hurts to lose someone who was the face of your team for so long," Mahomes added.
This comment from Mahomes comes after Dončić's surprising trade to the Lakers, a move that shocked many Mavericks fans. Mahomes, a loyal supporter of the team, believes Luka will continue to grow in Los Angeles.
Mahomes excited about the historic Super Bowl challenge
In addition to discussing the trade, Mahomes was asked if he would prefer to have the musical talent of Taylor Swift, the shooting ability of Steph Curry, or his own NFL throwing skills. The quarterback chose Swift: "Taylor Swift's musical ability is unmatched. My arm is good, but I don’t inspire billions of people. And Steph is the greatest shooter ever, but he’s not Taylor Swift," Mahomes said.
Looking ahead to the Super Bowl, Mahomes expressed his excitement about being "one game away from making history" and made it clear that his goal is to leave a lasting legacy with the Kansas City Chiefs. "I want us to be remembered as one of the best teams ever," he concluded.
