Conor McGregor Won’t Return to UFC, Agrees to Massive Boxing Match Against Logan Paul
Conor McGregor has announced plans to delay his highly anticipated return to the UFC, instead agreeing to a boxing exhibition bout against Logan Paul in India. The Irish fighter shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, confirming preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to host the match.
McGregor Delays UFC Return After Injury Setback
The former two-weight UFC champion has not fought since his TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021, where he suffered a severe leg fracture. McGregor was previously scheduled to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June but withdrew due to a foot injury.
“The rumors of a bout with [Ilia] Topuria are false,” McGregor clarified. “I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. I have agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon.”
Logan Paul: From YouTube to the Boxing Ring and WWE
Logan Paul, best known as a YouTuber-turned-athlete, has participated in four exhibition boxing matches. His record includes:
- A win against MMA fighter Dillon Danis.
- A draw and loss against KSI.
- A notable draw with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.
Beyond boxing, Paul has found success in the WWE, where he won the U.S. Championship in November 2023.
McGregor’s Boxing Experience and Recent Controversies
McGregor’s only professional boxing appearance came in 2017 against Floyd Mayweather, ending in a 10th-round TKO defeat. Outside the ring, McGregor faces ongoing legal challenges.
Last month, a Dublin civil jury found McGregor liable for sexually assaulting a woman in 2018, awarding the complainant €248,000 ($257,000 USD). McGregor, who claimed the encounter was consensual, has vowed to appeal the decision. He currently faces no criminal charges, though the case has led to multiple companies pulling McGregor-related products.
