MotoGP surprises with an unexpected choice to usher in a new era in 2027
The championship is preparing a special presentation for a season that will mark a turning point in MotoGP. After its recent events in Asia, the organization decided to switch continents and bet on a completely different setting.
MotoGP changes continents for its major presentation
MotoGP is already beginning to prepare for one of the most important seasons in its history. Although much of the 2026 championship still remains to be contested, the organization has confirmed where it will hold the official launch of the 2027 season.
After staging the event in Bangkok in 2025 and Kuala Lumpur in 2026, the championship will leave Asia and take its major presentation to the Americas.
An iconic setting to present the championship
The chosen city is Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which will host the MotoGP Season Launch on February 21, 2027.
The presentation will take place primarily at Botafogo Beach, one of Rio de Janeiro’s most recognizable locations.
The event will unfold with Sugarloaf Mountain as the backdrop, in a setting designed to bring together all teams, riders and manufacturers before the official start of the championship.

Brazil regains prominence within MotoGP
The decision comes after MotoGP returned to Brazil during the 2026 season, when the Grand Prix held in Goiânia sold out and drew nearly 150,000 spectators over the weekend.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP Group, highlighted the response from Brazilian fans and said Rio offers a combination of iconic locations, passionate supporters and world-class entertainment to continue growing the event.
The launch of a new era
Next season will mark the introduction of a major overhaul of the technical regulations, with the most visible change being the reduction in engine capacity from 1000cc to 850cc.
The event in Rio will take place just a few weeks before this new chapter officially begins. The championship is scheduled to get underway from March 5 to 7, 2027, with the Thailand Grand Prix in Buriram.
In this way, MotoGP will use one of Brazil’s most recognizable settings to present a season to the world that promises to transform several of the category’s key technical pillars.
