Franco Colapinto Explains His Crash in the Brazilian GP
Argentinian driver Franco Colapinto (Williams) shared his disappointment after the crash that forced him to retire from the São Paulo Grand Prix on Sunday, saying he lost control of the car.
“There was a big ‘river’ before the straight, and I lost control really aggressively there,” he told reporters. Competing in just his sixth Formula One race, Colapinto regretted the accident, especially after the mechanics had put in “great work” to repair the car following a rough start in the qualifying rounds.
Colapinto described the weekend as “tough” for both him and the team emotionally, especially after learning on Friday about the passing of his grandfather. He also highlighted his battle on the track with Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), calling him a “very clean” driver. Still, he remains optimistic: “We’ve got three races left, and we can come back stronger.”
At 21, Colapinto entered the race in 18th place in the overall standings and is still uncertain about his future with Williams or potentially moving to another team. He was one of the standout drivers of the Grand Prix, drawing thousands of Argentinian fans eager to see him race.
