Carlos Sainz clears up doubts about his future and makes a key Formula 1 decision
Carlos Sainz has made a decision that will shape his next few years in Formula 1 and confirms his confidence in a project that is still aiming to return to the top.
The renewal guarantees his place with the team through 2027 and beyond, although Williams did not disclose the exact length of the new deal. The move also completes the team's driver lineup for next season alongside Alex Albon.
Williams opts for continuity
The decision represents a major vote of confidence from Sainz in the project led by James Vowles.
The Spaniard joined Williams in 2025 from Ferrari and quickly took on an important role in the rebuilding process of one of Formula 1's historic teams. Since then, he has secured two Grand Prix podiums and another in a Sprint race.
During his first campaign with the team, Sainz helped Williams finish fifth in the 2025 Constructors' Championship, its best result since 2016.
A show of confidence despite a difficult year
After the first 11 races of the championship, the team sits ninth among the 11 teams on the grid with 11 points, while Sainz is 15th in the Drivers' Championship with six points.
Despite those results, the Madrid-born driver made clear his confidence in the work being done both at the factory and at the circuits, reiterating his commitment to the goal of returning Williams to competitive positions in Formula 1.
The Grove project keeps one of its key pieces
James Vowles particularly highlighted his constant work alongside the engineers and his involvement at the factory, factors that have made the Spaniard an important part of the team's future plans.
With his new deal, Sainz will continue trying to push forward a team that boasts nine Constructors' Championships and 114 Grand Prix victories and is seeking to regain prominence in Formula 1's new technical era.
