Max Verstappen Wins his Fourth Straight F1 Title and Chases Schumacher’s Record
Dutch driver Max Verstappen (Red Bull) has matched the four Formula 1 world championships held by Frenchman Alain Prost and German Sebastian Vettel after clinching his fourth consecutive title at the Las Vegas GP.
Since claiming his first championship in the dramatic finale of the 2021 season, Verstappen has now secured four titles in a row. He's closing in on Michael Schumacher's record of five consecutive championships, a feat the German legend achieved between 2000 and 2004 before being dethroned by Spain’s Fernando Alonso.
The Red Bull star also joins an elite group of drivers who’ve won four straight titles, including Argentina's Juan Manuel Fangio (1954–1957), Sebastian Vettel (2010–2013), and Lewis Hamilton (2017–2020).
At just 27 years old, Verstappen now ranks among the sport's all-time greats. Only Schumacher and Hamilton, both with seven championships, and Fangio, with five, have more titles to their name. Fangio, in particular, was the benchmark for Formula 1 dominance until the turn of the 21st century.
With this fourth championship, Verstappen surpasses legends like Australia's Jack Brabham, Britain’s Jackie Stewart, Austria’s Niki Lauda, and Brazilian icons Nelson Piquet and Ayrton Senna.
Currently, Max is the third-winningest driver in Formula 1 history with 62 victories, holding an impressive win rate of nearly 30% of all races he’s entered. Only Schumacher, with 91 wins, and Hamilton, with 105, stand ahead of him, and Verstappen’s winning percentage is nearly identical to theirs.
