Formula 1 is set to welcome a new team in the 2026 season, as Cadillac, in partnership with General Motors and TWG Motorsports, has officially been approved by the FIA and F1 management to join the grid.
Cadillac Joins the 2026 F1 Grid
In a joint statement, the FIA and Formula 1 confirmed that Cadillac has successfully met all sporting, technical, and commercial requirements to compete in the world’s premier motorsport series.
"The FIA and Formula One can confirm that, after completing their respective sporting, technical, and commercial assessments, the application of General Motors and TWG Motorsports to enter a Cadillac team in the Formula One World Championship has been approved."
With Cadillac’s addition, F1 will expand to 11 teams and 22 drivers in 2026, unless further entries are approved.
Current F1 Landscape
At present, the Formula 1 grid consists of 10 teams and 20 drivers, with Max Verstappen (Red Bull) aiming for his fifth consecutive championship. Other key competitors include Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), who continues to fight at the top level of motorsport.
The 2025 season will be the last under the current regulations, setting the stage for the major rule changes in 2026, which will also mark Cadillac’s debut.
