Michael Schumacher’s Superbike Sells for Record Price at Auction
Michael Schumacher’s legacy continues to electrify motorsport enthusiasts worldwide—not just in Formula 1, but now on two wheels.
A one-off Honda CBR1000RR Superbike, built exclusively for the seven-time world champion and used for track days after his initial F1 retirement, has smashed expectations at auction, selling for an impressive €64,800—nearly double its high-end estimate.
From F1 Glory to Motorcycle Passion
Best known for his dominant years with Benetton and Ferrari—collecting seven World Drivers’ Championships and 91 Grand Prix wins—Schumacher’s post-F1 passions were no less competitive.
After first retiring in 2006, he took up part-time bike racing, even earning a podium finish in the IDM Superbike Championship in 2008. By 2010, his dedication to motorcycles led Holzhauer Racing Performance to develop a bespoke Honda Fireblade (CBR1000RR) for his private use on track days.
This unique machine, sporting the number 77 and only 3,752km on the odometer, paired serious racing credentials with personal touches. The auction lot at RM Sotheby’s included a signed Schuberth helmet and gloves, further elevating its collectability.
Auction Day: Rare Memorabilia Shatters Estimates
The sale, part of the “The Champions – Schumacher and F1 Legends” collection, originally priced the bike at €25,000–€35,000. Intense international interest drove bidding to €64,800, far exceeding pre-auction projections.
This price reflects not just the bike’s racing pedigree, but its sentimental value—with demand from both collectors of motorsport memorabilia and Schumacher’s vast fanbase.
Additional Schumacher items in the same auction, such as a signed Ferrari kart helmet (€8,700) and a 1996 race suit (€21,600), also performed strongly. The alluring mix of F1 and motorcycle history proved irresistible in today’s booming memorabilia market.
A Fitting Tribute to an Icon
Michael Schumacher’s 2010 Honda CBR1000RR isn’t just a remarkable piece of engineering—it’s a bridge between two competitive worlds and a testament to the enduring power of his legacy.
With the record-smashing result of this auction, it’s clear Schumacher’s star power remains brighter than ever, on and off the circuit.
