The Finalists for African Player of the Year Are Here
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially revealed the five finalists for the 2024 African Player of the Year award this Monday: Moroccan Achraf Hakimi (PSG), Nigerian Ademola Lookman (Atalanta), Ivorian Simon Adingra (Brighton), Guinean Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund), and South African Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns).
Other categories announced this Monday include: Goalkeeper of the Year, Coach of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Club of the Year, and National Team of the Year.
The nominees for Best Goalkeeper of the Year are: Cameroonian Andre Onana (Manchester United), Ivorian Yahia Fofana (Angers), Egyptian Mostafa Shobeir (Al Ahly), Nigerian Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United), and South African Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns).
The nominees for Coach of the Year are: Pedro Goncalves (Angola), Emerse Fae (Ivory Coast), Sebastien Desabre (DR Congo), Marcel Koller (Al Ahly), and Hugo Broos (South Africa).
The five candidates for Young Player of the Year are: Ivorian Karim Konate (Salzburg), fellow Ivorian Oumar Diakite (Reims), Gambian Yankuba Minteh (Brighton), Moroccan Eliesse Ben Seghir (Monaco), and Senegalese Lamine Camara (Monaco).
The finalists for Best Club are: Al Ahly and Zamalek (Egypt), Berkane (Morocco), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), and Esperance (Tunisia). Meanwhile, the national teams nominated for Best National Team of the Year are: Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Nigeria, South Africa, and Sudan.
The CAF Awards 2024 cover the period from January to October 2024. The gala will take place in Marrakesh, Morocco, on December 16, 2024.
