Ancelotti Officially Named Brazil Coach: Romário Reacts with Viral Message
After months of speculation and prolonged anticipation, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) officially announced on Monday the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the new head coach of the Seleção, sparking a wave of reactions throughout Brazil. One of the first to speak out was legendary former striker Romário de Souza Faria, who welcomed the Italian coach with enthusiasm and a touch of humor.
Romário Welcomes Ancelotti
On his social media accounts, Romário, a 1994 World Cup champion with Brazil, posted a photo of Ancelotti alongside the phrase “Habemus tecnicum,” a Latin twist on the Vatican’s traditional “Habemus Papam” used to announce a new pope. In his post, the ex-player expressed his relief with the word “Finally,” celebrating that after a long saga, the Italian coach had officially arrived.
Just days earlier, Romário had voiced his support for the former Real Madrid manager, highlighting his experience, leadership, and the admiration he garners from rising Brazilian stars like Vinícius Jr., Rodrygo, and Endrick. “Given his track record, the clubs he has led, and the person he is, I truly hope he becomes our next head coach,” said the now Brazilian senator.

He also stated that Ancelotti has the potential to “start a revolution in Brazilian football, which is in desperate need of one,” alluding to the current struggles faced by the Brazilian national team.
Confirmed Debut and Immediate Challenges
The CBF confirmed that Ancelotti will make his official debut with Brazil on June 5 in Guayaquil against Ecuador, as part of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. Five days later, he will meet the home crowd in a match against Paraguay at the Neo Química Arena in São Paulo.
The squad list for these matches will be announced on May 26 at the CBF headquarters in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil currently sits fourth in the standings with 21 points, six ahead of Venezuela, who are just outside the direct qualification zone. Argentina leads with 31 points, followed by Ecuador, Uruguay, and Brazil.
Following the dismissal of Dorival Júnior after a heavy 4-1 defeat to Argentina on March 25, Ancelotti’s arrival signals a fresh chapter for the five-time world champions, who aim to reclaim their dominance on the global stage.
