Ancelotti Set to Face Real Madrid Sooner Than Expected: This Time as Brazil Coach
Carlo Ancelotti’s chapter with Real Madrid is set to close at the end of the 2024-25 season, but the Italian coach might be back at the Santiago Bernabéu sooner than anyone thought — and on the opposite bench. As part of his new contract with the Brazilian national team, Ancelotti is expected to return to Madrid to coach Brazil against Real Madrid in a tribute match at the stadium where he built his legacy.
Brazil vs Real Madrid at the Bernabéu: A Tribute to a Legendary Coach
According to Globoesporte, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has included a special clause in Ancelotti’s deal: a friendly match between Brazil and Real Madrid at the Bernabéu, honoring the most decorated manager in the club’s history.
While the exact date is still to be confirmed, the event will serve as an emotional tribute to a coach who led Los Blancos to multiple domestic and international titles. Ancelotti will officially take over as Brazil's head coach on May 26, one day after managing his final game for Madrid against Real Sociedad on the last matchday of LaLiga EA Sports.
A Lucrative Contract With Brazil
Ancelotti has signed an initial 14-month contract with Brazil, with an extension option after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to El País and Diario AS, the Italian manager will earn around €10 million net per year, plus a €5 million bonus if he leads the Seleção to glory in the United States.
His first squad announcement is scheduled for May 27, and his official debut will take place on June 6 against Ecuador in the South American World Cup Qualifiers. Brazil will then face Paraguay on June 10 in São Paulo.
