Club with the Most Ballon d'Or Wins in History
With Aitana Bonmatí’s new award, Barcelona has become the club with the most Ballon d'Or trophies worldwide. Find out here how many they have.
With the 'Ballon d'Or' won by Aitana Bonmatí, her second consecutive award, Barcelona has now accumulated a total of sixteen, making it the most decorated club in the history of this accolade: twelve in the men's category and four in the women's.
Barcelona was one of the major highlights at Monday's ceremony in Paris, with awards received by Aitana, as well as Lamine Yamal (Kopa Trophy, Best Young Player) and the women's team, recognized as the best team in the world.
Regarding the women's 'Ballon d'Or,' Barcelona holds the record with four awards: two from Alexia Putellas and two from Aitana Bonmatí, all consecutively. In the men's section, the Catalan club has also amassed twelve, matching Real Madrid.
The Barça women's team is the first to win four 'Ballon d'Or' awards in a row. In the men's category, this has only happened twice: first between 1982 and 1985, when Paolo Rossi (one) and Michel Platini (three) achieved it with Juventus. The second instance was when Lionel Messi won four consecutively with Barcelona from 2009 to 2012.
It is the first time that three Barcelona players have occupied the podium for the women's 'Ballon d'Or,' with Graham Hansen and Salma Paralluelo joining Aitana.
Previously, Barcelona achieved a podium sweep in the men's category in 2010, with Lionel Messi winning and Andrés Iniesta and Xavi Hernández taking second and third place, respectively.
Barcelona has also dominated the Kopa Trophy for Best Young Player in recent years. This year's recipient was Lamine Yamal, following Pedri (2021) and Gavi (2022), who won it in the last two years.
