Laporta on Dani Olmo Case: "It Could Have Been Avoided"
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta stated on Saturday that the controversy surrounding the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor for the Spanish Super Cup could have been avoided if the regulations had been applied correctly from the start. Nevertheless, he expressed relief that the situation was resolved in the club’s favor.
“This Super Cup has been marked by a controversy—the registration of certain players—which, fortunately, has been resolved, and they will be available for our coach. This situation could have been avoided if the regulations had been applied correctly, in our opinion. But the fact is that it’s now resolved, and they can play in the final,” Laporta stated during the RFEF’s official reception in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Laporta Celebrates Favorable Resolution
Laporta voiced satisfaction following the provisional measure granted by the Superior Sports Council (CSD), which allowed Olmo and Víctor to be registered and made eligible for the final against Real Madrid.
Barcelona had sought intervention from the CSD after both LaLiga and the RFEF rejected the registration, citing late submission of required documentation to comply with financial control regulations.
LaLiga to Appeal the CSD Decision
Despite Barcelona’s success in resolving the matter, LaLiga has announced its intention to appeal the CSD ruling in the ordinary courts. Meanwhile, RFEF president Rafael Louzán has yet to comment on the Council’s decision.
“We are pleased that our players can participate. The focus now should be on the final and continuing to compete at the highest level,” concluded Laporta, who initially planned to address the issue during a press conference in Barcelona next Tuesday but opted to make his remarks during the Super Cup’s official ceremony.
