Luis de la Fuente Named The Best Coach in The World in 2024
Luis de la Fuente, coach of the Spanish national team, has been named the best coach in the world in 2024 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS). The Spanish manager surpassed Lionel Scaloni, Argentina's coach, and Didier Deschamps, from France, in the voting thanks to his outstanding work with the Spanish national team.
The coach from La Rioja, who led "La Roja" to win the Euro 2024 in Germany, scored a total of 274 points, leaving Scaloni behind with 148 points. It’s worth noting that the Argentine coach was named the best in 2022 and 2023 after winning the Copa América and the Qatar World Cup.
De la Fuente becomes the third Spaniard to receive this prestigious recognition, following Luis Aragonés (2008) and Vicente del Bosque (2009, 2010, 2012, and 2013). This achievement further cements his status as one of the most outstanding coaches in the recent history of the Spanish national team.
Meanwhile, Didier Deschamps, who had previously been recognized as the best coach in the world in 2018 and 2020, continues to be in the 'top 10' for the tenth consecutive year. The Frenchman ranked third with 35 points, followed by Englishman Gareth Southgate in fourth place and Ivorian Emerson Fae in fifth. Other notable names included Julian Nagelsmann (Germany), Néstor Lorenzo (Colombia), and Marcelo Bielsa (Uruguay) on the list of the year’s best coaches.
