Real Madrid Faces Challenges in Pursuit of Alexander-Arnold: "The Offer Is Insulting"
The potential transfer of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid is encountering significant hurdles. The Liverpool right-back, whose contract expires in June 2025, has been the center of controversy following a bid from the Spanish giants. According to analysts in England, the offer, reportedly worth £20 million, has been labeled insufficient and even "insulting."
Criticism of Real Madrid's Offer
Gary Neville, former Manchester United player, did not mince words while analyzing the situation for Sky Sports, calling the bid disrespectful:
"I found it insulting. Liverpool will not sell Trent for that amount in January. I can imagine all the noise in his head before the match. This offer comes at a bad time for him."
Neville also pointed out that Alexander-Arnold may be feeling undervalued in England:
"I think Trent feels he isn’t respected as he deserves in England. I’ve criticized his defending myself, but there are times when he isn’t valued as he should be."
Carragher Points to Trent’s Representatives
Jamie Carragher, Liverpool legend and pundit, suggested that Alexander-Arnold's representatives played a role in escalating the situation:
"I’m not naive enough to think that Real Madrid submitted an offer in January for a player they can get for free in four months. His representatives knew exactly what was happening. This wasn’t something they found out by watching Sky Sports."
Carragher also voiced concerns about Liverpool's management of contract renewals for their star players:
"I don’t understand how the club has allowed Trent, Salah, and Van Dijk to reach this situation. They’ve only got six months left on their contracts. It’s worrying management."
Sturridge Defends Alexander-Arnold
Former Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge was more sympathetic toward Alexander-Arnold, highlighting his professionalism and calling for better collective support:
"Trent is a professional and focused guy. He can improve defensively, but there were moments when he didn’t get the support he needed. The club needs to do more to prevent players like Trent from being in this position."
Sturridge also noted the impact of Jürgen Klopp’s departure on the club:
"Klopp leaving was a setback, but it’s no excuse for letting these three players face this situation."
