Romário will play for Barcelona again 30 years later
The legendary former forward Romário de Souza Faria will wear the Barcelona jersey again 30 years later, in the veterans’ charity match between Barça Legends and Pelé Pequeno Príncipe Legends, a team of Brazilian players, on November 17 in Curitiba, Brazil.
Romário’s presence, a World Cup champion with Brazil in 1994 and part of the Barcelona ‘Dream Team’ from 1993 to 1995, will be the main attraction of the game, which will take place at the Liga Arena Stadium of Club Athletico Paranaense at 7:30 p.m. local time (12:30 a.m. Spanish time).
Proceeds from the match will go to the FC Barcelona Foundation and the Pelé Pequeno Príncipe Research Institute, which works to reduce infant and youth mortality through research on complex diseases.
In addition to Romário, the Brazilian players José Paulo Bezerra ‘Paulinho,’ a midfielder who played for Barcelona in the 2017-18 season, and Adriano Correia, a defender for Barcelona between 2010 and 2016, will also debut with the Barça Legends.
The rest of the Barça Legends squad includes Jonathan Soriano, Marc Valiente, Jesús Angoy, Xavi Guzman, Samuel Okunowo, Francisco Coco, Frédéric Déhu, Fernando Navarro, Sergi Barjuan, José Edmilson, Roberto Trashorras, Nolito, Jofre Mateu, Javier Saviola, Rivaldo, and Giovanni da Silva.
