When Was the Last Time AS Monaco Defeated PSG in a Final?
If only history were played, PSG would have the upper hand against AS Monaco in the French Super Cup final.
In finals between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and AS Monaco, the Parisians have often been the dominant force, much to the frustration of the Monegasques. Whether it’s the Coupe de la Ligue or the Coupe de France, PSG has consistently gotten the better of Monaco in crucial matches.
In the Coupe de la Ligue, PSG claimed victory in two finals, beating Monaco 4-1 in 2017 and 3-0 in 2018, both times with a brace from Edinson Cavani. These victories cemented PSG's reputation as Monaco's nemesis in French cup competitions.
Similarly, in the Coupe de France, PSG has won their last two encounters with Monaco. In 2010, they triumphed 1-0 after extra time, thanks to a goal from Guillaume Hoarau. Then, in 2021, PSG emerged victorious with a 2-0 win, with goals from Mauro Icardi and Kylian Mbappé.
Almost 40 years...
However, Monaco does have one significant victory over PSG in a final, and it dates back almost 40 years. In May 1985, Monaco won the Coupe de France final 1-0, with Bernard Genghini scoring the only goal of the match. At that time, PSG boasted players like Luis Fernández, Dominique Rocheteau, and Safet Sušić.
Despite this lone victory, PSG has consistently been the more successful team in finals against Monaco, and the upcoming French Super Cup final between the two clubs will once again test this historical trend.
Will Monaco be able to break the curse, or will PSG add another chapter to their dominance in this rivalry?
