Keylor Navas Is Ready for His Debut With Pumas UNAM
Legendary Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas is just one step away from beginning a new chapter in his illustrious football career, this time in Mexican football. After receiving his work visa, the former Real Madrid star is closer than ever to making his official debut with Pumas UNAM.
The news was confirmed by Mexico's consul in Guatemala, Alejandro Martínez, who announced via his official X account that the goalkeeper now has the necessary documentation to work in Mexico. With this process complete, Navas can begin the final steps of joining the university club.
A highly anticipated debut at a crucial time for Pumas
Keylor Navas arrives at a difficult moment for Pumas, who currently sit at the bottom of the Apertura standings after conceding six goals in just two matches. Head coach Efraín Juárez, recently appointed after a spell with Atlético Nacional in Colombia, hopes to have the Costa Rican keeper available as soon as possible—perhaps even for their next match against Querétaro.

Coming from Argentina, where he had a brief stint with Newell’s Old Boys, Navas made a stop in Mexico City before traveling to Guatemala to complete his visa application. Now back in Mexico, he must undergo medical tests and finalize his contract with the club.
At 38 years old, Navas continues to show unwavering commitment to his career. Widely regarded as the greatest goalkeeper in Concacaf history, he has earned 120 caps for Costa Rica and starred in the 2014, 2018, and 2022 World Cups. His biggest achievements came with Real Madrid, where he won three Champions League titles, along with four Club World Cups and three UEFA Super Cups.
With past experience at Saprissa, Levante, Albacete, PSG, and Nottingham Forest, Navas is a world-class signing for Pumas, who are seeking to return to winning ways.
If he makes his debut this Friday, Keylor Navas will not only strengthen Pumas’ defense, but will also raise the competitive level of the Mexican league with his experience and leadership.
