Bayern Munich Loses Classic Match to Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund came out on top (0-2) against Bayern Munich, a result that helps Bayer Leverkusen extend their lead over the Bavarian club to 13 points in the Bundesliga standings.
This marks Dortmund's first victory over Bayern in the Bundesliga in 10 years.
Dortmund took the lead in the 11th minute through Karim Adeyemi, starting from a ball won by Nico Schlottebeck from Thomas Müller near the halfway line. The ball eventually reached Julian Brandt, who played a pass to Adeyemi. He then beat Eric Dier for pace and defeated Sven Ullreich with a shot inside the box.
During the first half, Bayern had more possession and more shots on target, but their play lacked precision.
Bayern only posed a threat to Dortmund's area in isolated plays. One clear chance was a header from Harry Kane, off target from a Joshua Kimmich cross from the right.
Bayern's best opportunity came in the second half, in the 50th minute, when Alphonso Davies missed a shot from an excellent position after a pass from Kane.
Hummels, at the back, was close to being the man of the match with an almost flawless performance and several crucial actions, including intercepting a cross from Kingsley Coman in the 68th minute that aimed for Kane, who could have scored easily.
As Dortmund pressed forward, they found their second goal through Julian Ryerson, who scored with a shot to the far post from a Sebastien Haller pass.
In the 89th minute, a goal by Kane that would have narrowed the gap for Bayern was disallowed by VAR for offside, leaving the Bavarians defeated at home with a 2-0 scoreline, trailing Bayer Leverkusen by 13 points in the Bundesliga race.
