Harry Kane and the Promise He Made for When He Retires
Harry Kane, the 31-year-old English striker currently playing for Bayern Munich, still hasn’t won a major team title, despite being considered one of the best goal scorers in the world. However, Kane remains hopeful that his “best version” is yet to come, and he believes that when he decides to “hang up his boots,” the topic of titles won’t matter anymore.
Confidence in the Future
In an interview with France Football magazine, Harry Kane downplayed the lack of titles in his career, even though he’s been a runner-up in several major competitions. He pointed to the finals he lost, like the Euro 2021 and 2024 with England, and the Champions League final in 2019 against Liverpool. However, Kane remained confident, stating, “When I hang up my boots, that won’t be an issue anymore.”
The striker, who won the Golden Boot after scoring 36 goals last season and is the all-time top scorer for the England national team with 69 goals, said, “I have a lot of confidence that the second part of my career, which starts now, will be full of big trophies.”
Acknowledging His Coaches
Harry Kane also took the opportunity to praise two of the most influential coaches in his career. The first, Mauricio Pochettino, who was in charge of Tottenham Hotspur from 2014 to 2019. “He’s the one who gave me real responsibilities in participating in the game. He made me work physically to take on that role,” the English goal scorer said.
Kane also expressed his gratitude to José Mourinho, his coach between 2019 and 2021, who, according to the striker, helped him develop a great connection with South Korean Son Heung-min. “Under José Mourinho’s direction, we created a striking duo and almost telepathic connection with much more dynamic roles,” said Kane.
