A New Technology Debuts in the Bundesliga!
The German Football League (DFL), the operating company of the Bundesliga, will test the "chip-in-the-ball" technology, which detects ball contacts to signal goals and handballs, during the Supercup match between Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart on August 17.
According to the magazine "Sport Bild," this sensor mechanism, which was already used in the last EURO, will be fine-tuned in the first official title to be decided in Germany; however, according to the information, the Bundesliga will not apply it in the national competition for now.
If the test in the Supercup is successful, the technology will not be introduced into the league until the 2025/2026 season at the earliest.
The system, which detects even the slightest touch of the ball, is displayed to the fans with a graphic that resembles an electrocardiogram.
During EURO 2024, this technology was used, for example, to award a penalty, after a referee's decision upon receiving the contact notification, for the handball committed by Danish defender Joachim Andersen during the Germany-Denmark Round of 16 match.
