Neuer hints Bayern contract extension is imminent
Manuel Neuer's long-term future with Bayern Munich was in doubt, but he now appears likely to stay, at least for 2025-26.
Manuel Neuer is set to extend his stay with Bayern Munich to 15 years by penning a new contract with the Bundesliga giants.
Neuer joined Bayern in 2011 and has gone on to make 541 appearances for the club in all competitions, the eighth-most among all players in their illustrious history.
The 2014 World Cup winner has made 357 of those appearances in the Bundesliga, the seventh-most of any goalkeeper, and has kept a record-breaking 167 clean sheets.
Neuer's contract at the Allianz Arena is due to expire in June, but having re-established himself as Bayern's number one after an injury-hit period, he is now set to stay.
"There's nothing official at the moment," he told Sport1 after Saturday's 1-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.
"That's for sure. But when the time comes, you will hear about it, and I would just say, it will be soon."
Neuer's contract extension could have ramifications for Alexander Nubel, who has impressed on loan at Stuttgart and has long been seen as the likely successor to Bayern's shot-stopper.
He is prepared to wait for his chance in Munich, though he understands he may have to consider a permanent move if Neuer plays on beyond 2026.
"If Manuel Neuer should extend now, which I assume he will, we'll see if we can get together in 2026, Bayern Munich and I," Nubel said after Stuttgart beat Augsburg 1-0 on Sunday.
"Or we'll say it will be something else. I'm not stuck on one club. It's just mega to play here. I think the whole area lives for the club, and that's really nice."
