Scandal in CONMEBOL: Brazil Wants to Leave for CONCACAF!
Leila Pereira, president of Palmeiras, has raised her voice asking to leave CONMEBOL and join CONCACAF
The incident that occurred during the Sub-20 Copa Libertadores match between Cerro Porteño and Palmeiras is far from being resolved. During the match, forward Luighi was the target of tacit insults from the Cerro Porteño fans, who were fined 50,000 dollars. This decision has caused a scandal within Brazilian football.

Why Does Brazil Want to Leave CONMEBOL?
Brazil’s demands to CONMEBOL were to expel Cerro Porteño from the Copa Libertadores. A proposal that was not accepted by Alejandro Domínguez, president of the South American football governing body, which has led to a wave of attacks against his figure. So much so that Brazil reportedly requested to leave CONMEBOL to join CONCACAF.
In this case, it was Leila Pereira, president of Palmeiras, who raised her voice in front of the TNT Sports microphones, claiming that if CONMEBOL does not take real actions to punish racist acts, they will stop participating in its tournaments. Brazil is fed up with this situation, and the incidents involving young Luighi could mark a point of no return.
"We Have Sent a Letter to FIFA"
“I have a meeting at the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), I will speak with the Brazilian clubs that will be there and with president Ednaldo Domingues. It’s a seed to plant. If we are not respected here in South America, why not go to CONCACAF? Of course, it would be better financially for Brazilian clubs,” said Leila Pereira.
She also added that she doesn’t understand how a fine for racism is lower than those imposed, for example, for delaying the start of a match: “For delays in starting matches, there is a fine of 100,000 dollars. For flares, it’s 78,000 dollars. Look at how CONMEBOL treats this racism offense. We have already sent a letter to FIFA asking for their intervention.”
