OFFICIAL: Corinthians Decide Not to Renew Memphis Depay's Contract
The Brazilian club confirmed Memphis Depay's departure after nearly two years in São Paulo. Corinthians explained that the decision was made exclusively for financial reasons and comes just before facing Rosario Central in the Copa Libertadores.

Corinthians confirmed Tuesday that Memphis Depay will not continue with the club after his contract expired at the end of July. The Dutch forward joined the Brazilian side in September 2024 and became one of the team's biggest stars during his time in Brazil.
In an official statement, Corinthians explained that the decision was made with the club's financial situation in mind. The club said taking on a new financial commitment of that magnitude would not currently be compatible with the balance needed to ensure its long-term stability.
Memphis Leaves With Three Trophies
The club acknowledged that the process of determining Memphis Depay's future took longer than usual because of the player's importance to the project.
The Dutch forward ends his spell with Corinthians after making 79 appearances and scoring 20 goals. He also lifted three trophies: the Campeonato Paulista and Copa do Brasil in 2025, as well as the Supercopa in 2026.
President Osmar Stabile will hold a press conference in the coming days to provide further details about the decision.
The announcement also brings an end to several weeks of uncertainty. After representing the Netherlands at the World Cup, Memphis did not return to the team's routine in São Paulo.
Corinthians Lose a Key Player Ahead of the Libertadores
Memphis' departure creates another problem for Fernando Diniz, especially given the number of absences currently affecting the Corinthians attack.
Yuri Alberto is sidelined through injury, while Zakaria Labyad, Vitinho, and Kayke are also unavailable. With limited options, Pedro Raúl has gone from seeing little playing time to becoming an important alternative for the coach. The 29-year-old forward has responded by scoring two goals in his last two starts.
The news also comes at a crucial point in the season. Corinthians will travel to Argentina to face Rosario Central on Thursday in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores Round of 16 tie.
The Brazilian side will hold its final training session at Newell's Old Boys' facilities before visiting the Gigante de Arroyito. The second leg will be played on August 20 at the Neo Química Arena, but Corinthians will have to navigate the knockout tie without one of the biggest stars of its recent era: Memphis Depay.
